Insanity (A Monologue)
Shhhhh. Don’t speak so loud. They’re listening, they’re always listening. Who? Them. All of them. The doctors? No, not them. Them. Don’t you see them? They follow me. Everywhere, they follow-
Why did you let them in? They promised I’d be safe and they lied! They LIED! Who? The doctors? Yes, the doctors lied to me. And I hate-
Shhhh. Don’t yell. No, no. Don’t yell. They’re listening, always listening. What do they tell me? Be bad, be bad. But I, I, I want to be good.
Get out!
Sorry, so sorry. Didn’t mean to yell. No yelling. None. They’ll hear you.
Why? Why did you let them in? Why do you hate me? Why are you doing this to me?
Shhhh. Shhh. Someone’s coming. Coming this way. I hear them…coming. I”m not crazy.

Thanks.
I wrote this on my spare this morning, and it is in fact for drama. I’m playing a mentally ill teenager who is placed into care at a mental hospital. She hears and sees people who do not exist, and she has emotional problems. The blue is one personality, the red is another. At the end a doctor wakls in, and the audience-who thought she was talking to someone else-realize that she was alone all along.
I’m so excited to do this, I never do stuff like this in drama, and I’m glad I finally have the opportunity.
And thanks hun, you’re the best.

Ooh, I just tried a performance of this.
It was awesome!
And if I enjoy doing a monologue, it’s because it’s a good monologue to do!
Good job – can’t wait to see how you play it out.
